Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters Crowned Miss Universe
World, we have a new Miss Universe.
Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters has been crowned the winner of the 66th Miss Universe competition, beating out women from around the world to take the title at this year’s competition, held live Sunday in Las Vegas.
Nel-Peters, 22, recently earned her degree in Business Management at North West University.
She will take over for last year’s winner, Iris Mittenaere, who became the first beauty queen from France to take the crown in over 60 years.
Steve Harvey once again hosted the live show, which ran smoothy. Two years prior, the comedian, 61, infamously announced the wrong winner, naming Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as Miss Universe when it was actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
The pageant, which used to be co-owned by Donald Trump, also featured Ashley Graham as a backstage host for the second year in a row, and Fergie and Rachel Platten as musical performers.
