Quincy Brown has shared an update on his relationship with his father, Al B. Sure!, as Diddy’s woes continue.

The aspiring singer appeared on the latest episode of Angela Yee’s Lip Service, where he was questioned about the 2009 message he penned to the R&B legend. The letter called the man, whose real name is Albert Joseph Brown III, out for being “absent” and creating “an irreplaceable force” that impacted his life in many ways. Time seems to have healed those wounds, as Brown told the ladies that he and his father are “cool now.”

“I think we got a cool relationship, right? He tends to, like, try and do, like, the ‘dad thing’ a lot. But it’s like that’s not really where we’re at in life. Like, we homies more than anything,” he said. “We’re like, let’s go do something, you know what I mean? And I feel like that’s kind of where we’re getting at now is actually knowing that we two grown men. You know what I mean? We can talk about anything and everything. It’s not about anything else.”

The ladies pressed Brown, asking who or what inspired him to write the letter to his father in the late 2000s. Quincy credited meeting Russell Simmons and their conversation as the driving force behind his motivations, saying, “I think we got on the topic of him and [Simmons] was like, ‘Wait, what do you mean you haven’t spoken to him?’ And I was like, ‘Well, I’m trying to figure out the best way to do so.'”

The actor concluded his explanation, revealing that Al B. Sure! even congratulated him on his recently released project, ETA, and stated that, “I love my dad. And like I said, we’re way in a better place.”

Meanwhile, Diddy, who raised Quincy alongside Kim Porter, is probably praying to be in a better place. The mogul was arrested on Monday (Sept. 16) and was placed on suicide watch Thursday (Sept. 19), with sources saying Combs “is in shock and his mental state is unclear,” as per People.

However, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, echoed the U.S Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections in telling TMZ that his client is “not at all suicidal” and that he is “strong, healthy, confident and focused on his defense.”
