Quinta Brunson And Anderson .Paak Join Cast Of Pharrell Williams’ Musical
The cast of Pharell’s pending musical is shaping up to include some of Hollywood’s best talent. The latest additions to the project are Quinta Brunson and Anderson .Paak, per Deadline.
Halle Bailey was the first star revealed to lead the currently untitled film months after the music producer shared a casting call for the role. Since her commitment, additional musicians and actors have been named to the musical. So far the casting includes Kelvin Harrison Jr., Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Missy Elliott, Janelle Monáe, Tim Meadows, Jaboukie Young-White, Jamilah Rosemond, and Jayson Lee.
Directed by Michel Gondry, the effort is described as a coming-of-age musical inspired by Pharrell Williams’ time in Atlantis Apartments where he grew up. The story takes place in Virginia Beach in the summer of 1977.
Williams and Mimi Valdés are set to produce through i am OTHER, and Gil Netter will produce through Gil Netter Productions, with writing credits to Martin Hynes and Steven Levenson. Universal Picture’s Senior Vice President of Production Development, Ryan Jones, and Director of Production Development, Christine Sun are overseeing the film for the studio.
The ensemble cast is not the only people set to bring part of Skateboard P’s origin story to life. This fall, Legos and Focus Features have set a biopic on the 51-year-old, with Legos front and center. Titled Piece By Piece, the film is due in theaters in October 2024.
“Who would’ve thought that playing with LEGO bricks as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. It’s proof that you can do it too…” detailed Williams on Instagram sharing a promotional flyer.
