R. Kelly already has enough horrific stories about him to completely shift his perception, and there is still more on the way. His daughter Buku Abi has promised to share a “heartbreaking secret” in a forthcoming TVEI documentary.

R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey is set to air on the TVEI streaming platform on Oct. 11 and will feature interviews with Abi, Kelly’s ex-wife Drea, and his son Robert Kelly Jr. A promotional Instagram post for the documentary states that Abi “bravely reveals a heartbreaking secret that shattered her childhood” and the doc “pulls back the curtain on the dark reality of growing up in the shadow of one of music’s most notorious figures.”

In a trailer, Abi says “For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened. I didn’t know that even if he was a bad person that he would do something to me. I really feel like that one millisecond completely just changed my whole life. Nobody wants to be the child of the father that is out here hurting women and children.” Later in the trailer, Drea adds, “What he did to me, he did to me, but you didn’t have to do it to my kids.” Watch below.

R. Kelly has been fighting for his freedom for some years now. He has attempted to have his convictions for his sex crimes overturned because they took place decades ago and fall outside of the statute of limitations. His legal team cited the PROTECT Act, which did not become a law until 2003 and thus would not pertain to his crimes which occurred in the 1990s. The Supreme Court is currently deliberating on whether they will engage with the appeal in the ensuing months.
