Ralph Macchio on Hilary Swank returning to “Karate Kid” franchise: 'That would be interesting'

One of Swank's early movie roles was starring in "The Next Karate Kid."

As Cobra Kai begins the long rollout of its final season, many of the franchise's original stars, such as Ralph Macchio (as Daniel LaRusso), William Zabka (as Daniel's foe-turned-partner Johnny), and Martin Kove (as John Kreese) are there. Even Yuji Okumoto (as Karate Kid 2 alum Chozen) is part of the cast.

So where's Hilary Swank, the star of 1994's The Next Karate Kid? It was the film that Macchio's Daniel LaRusso did not appear in. Swank plays Julie Pierce, a troubled kid who Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) trains much like he did Daniel in the original film.

At the LA premiere of part 1 of Cobra Kai's sixth season, ET reporter Ash Crossan told Macchio she loves Swank and suggested the Oscar winner make an appearance on the TV show or even the new franchise film starring Macchio and Jackie Chan.

Macchio didn't shut down the idea.

"Who doesn't?" asked Macchio, who's also an executive producer on the action-dramedy. "And that's the one piece that would be interesting."

The first five episodes of Cobra Kai's sixth season dropped Thursday, while a second batch will come out Nov. 15. The last ones episodes are scheduled for next year.

This season, fans will see the karate kids from Team Miyagi-Do/Eagle Fang preparing for the elite Sekai Taikai international karate tournament under Daniel and Johnny, while the villainous John Kreese remains as much of a threat as ever.

"Kreese has always been pretty hardcore," co-creator Jon Hurwitz told EW this month, "but he's always had a little bit of a soft spot for Johnny. This time around, the soft spot is gone. So, Kreese is potentially more dangerous than ever. "
