The Ray Donovan Spinoff Is Now a Standalone Series, Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren Eyed to Star (Report)
Paramount+’s forthcoming Ray Donovan spinoff is now its own series that will not be connected to the Showtime drama, our sister site Deadline reports.
The new show, titled The Associates, reportedly is in negotiations with Tom Hardy (Peaky Blinders, Mad Max: Fury Road), Helen Mirren (1923, The Queen) and Pierce Brosnan (Remington Steele, The Thomas Crown Affair) to star.

In February, the streamer ordered 10 episodes of The Donovans, an hour-long drama “loosely based” on the OG series that starred Liev Schreiber. No one from Ray Donovan‘s cast or creative team was to be involved in the offshoot. Instead, Guy Ritchie was attached to the new project (now The Associates) as an executive producer/director, while Irish novelist/screenwriter Ronan Bennett was slated to write all 10 episodes.
Per Deadline, The Associates would follow two generations of a crime family and the fixer they use to help make their problems go away. Hardy reportedly would play Harry, the fixer, while Mirren and Brosnan would play the mother and father at the head of the crime family.
Ray Donovan ran for seven seasons and one wrap-up movie on Showtime.
“We’re going to deliver a show which provides massive thrills, entertainment and a huge rush of adrenaline for audiences around the world,” said Bennett in a statement when The Donovans was announced. “At the same time, I’m totally focused on exploring real characters, in body and in soul, and I’m committed to writing stories with deep dramatic impact. We’re going to get under the skin of the criminal underworld, in a way which will show you the bone-deep truths of how they live and how it sometimes will – inevitably – impact on our own lives.”
