Reba McEntire, Jennifer Hudson duet on Aretha Franklin's 'Respect': Watch the iconic mashup
Reba McEntire and Jennifer Hudson may have just given a duet for the ages.
The country music star, 68, stopped by "The Jennifer Hudson Show," where she reminisced about covering "Respect" by the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin in 1980.
McEntire told Hudson, 41, her motivation to cover the song was simple.
"I liked the song," she said, in a clip from the episode published online Wednesday. "I loved the song. I love Aretha. I got to meet her. She scared me to death. I wouldn't even talk to her."
Hudson sympathized, saying, "Yeah, that scared me too."
McEntire said she met Franklin in Washington, DC, adding that the soul singer, who died in 2018 at the age of 76, was "just amazing."
Hudson then asked McEntire if she'd be up to duet "Respect" with her right then and there on the talk show.
McEntire happily agreed, and the two sang from the couches on set.
"Hit us, Charles!" Hudson exclaimed, referencing someone off camera.
McEntire took on the first verse, singing: "What you want / Baby I got it / What you need / Do you know I got it / All I want you to do for me / Show me some respect."
Reba McEntire will hit the road this fall with Terri Clark: 'Gals gotta stick together!'
Hudson later jumped in with: "Listen, I ain't gone do you wrong while you're gone / I ain't gone do you wrong 'cause I don't wanna / But all I'm asking is for a little respect when you get home."
The duet earned wild applause from the studio audience.
"Miss Reba McEntire, y'all," Hudson told the crowd. "Give her a hand."
