All of the Recent Bravo Lawsuits and What They Might Mean for Andy Cohen
Andy Cohen has overcome a lot of hurdles in his career, but none seem as poignant as the current state of affairs. In last few months, the Bravo kingpin has been hit from all sides as some of his former talent have chosen to bite the hand that feeds them. Andy has always come off as a funny guy who cared about his passion projects. But these new allegations could mean Andy’s time as the king of Bravo might be up and not scheduled for renewal.
Bravo vs. Caroline Manzo
It was shocking to hear that former Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Caroline Manzo, was suing Forest Productions, Warner Bros. Entertainment, NBCUniversal Media, Shed Media, and Peacock TV. In documents obtained by People, Caroline alleged the network would “regularly ply the Real Housewives cast with alcohol. Cause them to become severely intoxicated, and then direct, encourage and/or allow them to sexually harass other cast members because that is good for ratings.”
Caroline sued after she claimed she was sexually harassed by Brandi Glanville while filming the Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip. In the lawsuit, the docs referred to Caroline as a “victim of those harmful actions” and wanted the defendants to stop “continuing to sacrifice their cast members safety for their own ratings and profits.” Surprisingly, Brandi is not named in the lawsuit. This comes as a big blow for Andy, who always seemed to get along with Caroline. So, it will be interesting to see how her lawsuit plays out.
Andy vs. Leah McSweeney
The founder of Married to the Mob is the most recent former Real Housewives star to lay into Andy. Leah McSweeney is suing Andy, Bravo, NBC Universal, Warner Bros. Discovery, Shed Media, and producers John Paparazzo, Lisa Shannon, and Darren Ward, claiming a “rotted workplace” via Vanity Fair. The suit argues the defendants created an unsafe workplace environment that was not conducive to her disabilities, including her alcohol disorder and “various mental health disorders.”
Leah also claimed that she relapsed while filming the Real Housewives of New York. She shared the producers “pressured” her to drink and gave her “unlimited, free-of-charge” alcohol. The relapse occurred shortly after the infamous Hurricane Leah episode. Leah has also accused Andy of offering her cocaine, with the suit reading that “Cohen’s proclivity for cocaine usage with his employees is well-known throughout the Real Housewives franchise.” He favors cast members that “play ball.” And “tends to provide the Housewives with whom he uses cocaine with more favorable treatment and edits.”
Is Bravo Scared of Brandi Glanville’s Threatening Letter?
Brandi has always been a polarizing character on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Her letter to Bravo accused Andy of sexual harassment. The 51-year-old had her lawyer send a letter to NBCUniversal, Shed Media, and Shed’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery. It revealed in 2022, the father of two sent a video to her bragging about “his intention to sleep with another Bravo star that night.” Andy has said the video was a joke.
But why would an executive producer ever think it is okay to joke sexually with their paid talent? Surely, Andy should have had some wherewithal to know better. Andy isn’t dumb, but it feels like he made a very stupid move that is being thrown back in his face.
Rachel Leviss vs Bravo, Ariana Madix, and Tom Sandoval
After Scandoval was revealed in March 2023, Rachel Leviss took a firestorm of hate. Last week she took back her power by suing Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix for revenge porn. The video in question was talked about in season 10. Fans learned Tom had recorded Rachel masturbating without her permission on a Facetime call. Ariana had accidentally seen the video after she was given his phone the same night she found out he was cheating.
The paperwork read via NBC News: “Lost in the mix was that Leviss was a victim of the predatory and dishonest behavior of an older man, who recorded sexually explicit videos of her without her knowledge or consent, which were then distributed, disseminated and discussed publicly by a scorned woman seeking vengeance, catalyzing the scandal.”
With Bravo’s current state, it feels like there is a new lawsuit every week, and I truly think Andy should be worried. Rumors are he has hired a PR crisis team because, let’s face it, he is in quite a pickle. The former stars are coming for the kin, and they want to see him overthrown.
