UPDATED: New this weekend at the international box office, Warner Bros began pre-domestic release on Amazon MGM Studios’ Red One. The opening numbers on the Christmas-themed Seven Bucks production are within the range we expected heading into the frame, coming in at $26.6M from 75 offshore markets.
For Latin America, the film ranked No. 2 behind the 3rd weekend of Venom: The Last Dance, but results are above comps like Central Intelligence (+35%).

In Europe, and at today’s rates, Red One is tracking ahead of Central Intelligence (+9%) and Skyscraper (+15%).
Asia was not expected to excel; however in the region (excluding China and Japan), reviews were mostly positive, and the film ranked as the No. 1 or No. 2 U.S. title in all but two markets.
Overall, the Dwayne Johnson/Chris Evans-starrer saw strong Saturday performance across nearly all markets with family audiences propelling results; this bodes well for the weeks to come heading further into the holiday season.
The UK gave it a No. 2 start with $3.2M, ahead of a number of comps. Mexico was a No. 2 launch at $2.3M with families dialing in. While Christmas is not generally celebrated in China, the $2M bow is 836% above The Lost City and 188% over The Fall Guy. The majority of play was in Tier 1 and 2 cities. Spain, at $1.5M, was a No. 1 start which performed well versus comps. Saturday saw a 172% increase over Friday, a sign of family interest. Germany’s $1.4M launch was good for No. 3 with the highest Friday to Saturday admission multiplier amongst the top five films.
With another solid overseas hold, Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance continues to defy expectations, now at $279.4M in international box office, and $394.2M globally as it tangos towards the four-century mark. This third weekend licked up $33M from 66 offshore markets (-51% versus last frame).
The Marvel symbiote is still generating interest in China, but this weekend did not lead the pack (local title The Untold Story was No. 1 with $11.2M). Nevertheless, that remains the top market for the threequel at $82.8M with a Maoyan-projected final of $93M.
Rounding out the Top 5 markets to date are Mexico ($17.2M), UK ($14.3M), Germany ($11.5M) and Korea ($11.2M).
The Imax global cume is $29.6M.
Also heading towards a milestone, Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot added $9M from 80 markets this session (-49%), lifting the international cume to $161.6M and global to $292.5M. The film has now surpassed Encanto overseas.
The Top 5 offshore markets to date are Mexico ($19.1M), UK ($16.5M), France ($11.7M), Australia ($10.9M) and Spain ($9.3M); the latter seeing double-digit uplift in admissions every day from Monday-Thursday during the local Fiesta del Cine promotion, and despite ongoing strife in the Valencia region following catastrophic weather.
Elsewhere, and Per comScore, Studiocanal’s Paddington in Peru launched to a strong $12.3M in the UK (Sony releases domestically in January). Also per comScore, Diwali pictures Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 were neck and neck globally in their sophomore frames, with $10.9M apiece, lifting their respective worldwide cumes to $41.5M and $38.6M.
Showing strong results in the UK & Ireland, Lionsgate’s Small Things Like These has grossed an estimated $2.84M in just 10 days of release and with a slight 27% drop in the sophomore session.
