Reese Witherspoon shares throwback from 'Legally Blonde': 'I'll never forget shooting this scene'
Reese Witherspoon’s Throwback Thursday was all about Legally Blonde.
The Draper James mogul looked back on the making of what’s arguably the 2001 movie’s most famous scene, the one featuring the “bend and snap” move. It’s a movement Witherspoon’s Elle Woods is instructing her new friend Paulette (hilariously played by Jennifer Coolidge) to perform to catch the eye of the delivery man.
“I’ll never forget shooting this scene for #LegallyBlonde,” she wrote alongside a clip. “We actually had an entire dance number that we memorized for weeks and weeks choreographed by the amazing Toni Basil. All these professional dancers came in and made the entire sequence so fun!”
The Little Fires Everywhere star also noted late cast member Beverly Polcyn, who worked on Legally Blonde as a senior citizen. (Polcyn also appeared in Not Another Teen Movie and The Sweetest Thing about that time.)
“There was even a dancer named Beverly Polcyn dancing with us,” Witherspoon said. “She was in her 80’s and had danced in movies with Shirley Temple as a young girl. She had more energy than all of us!”
The movie was a huge hit, earning $141 million worldwide on an $18 million budget. It spawned both a sequel and a Broadway musical, and both were smashes. In June 2018, Deadline reported that the studio behind the movie was close to finalizing a deal with Witherspoon to reprise her role.
Witherspoon has since confirmed a third movie is in the works, but there have been no updates as of late.
