Release dates: Pharrell Williams' musical "Atlantis," LEGO movie "Piece by Piece"
HOPEWELL — At least three times, once in May and twice in June, downtown Hopewell was transformed to resemble Virginia Beach for a coming-of-age musical film. Officially titled "Atlantis," it will be released theatrically next year on May 9, according to Variety who revealed the date last week.
A press release from the office of Gov. Glenn Youngkin stated that the Universal Pictures film is set in the summer of 1977, and it is inspired by Atlantis Apartments, musician Pharrell Williams' childhood neighborhood.
The star-studded film directed by Michel Gondry includes Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Halle Bailey, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Anderson .Paak, Tim Meadows, Janelle Monáe, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayson Lee, Jaboukie Young-White, Shane Callahan, Kendrick Cross, Quinta Brunson and more. Williams' "Piece by Piece" animated biopic LEGO movie about his upbringing will be released theatrically by Focus Features this fall on October 11. As described by Internet Movie Database [IMDb], "Piece by Piece," directed by Morgan Neville, is a vibrant journey through the life of cultural icon Pharrell Williams, told through the lens of LEGO animation.
IMDB listed the following as the voices featured in "Piece by Piece:" Pharrell Williams, Morgan Neville, Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Timbaland, ItzKiff, Justin Timberlake, N.O.R.E., Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Daft Punk, Aaron Wickenden and Taaes2008.
According to Wikipedia, "Piece by Piece," PG-rated, is produced by The Lego Group, Tremolo Productions and Williams' I Am Other. Williams wrote five original songs for the project. The "Piece by Piece" poster states, "Turn up the volume on your imagination."
