Just a few months ago, the newest film adapted from the Colleen Hoover novel It Ends With Us had the world on the edge of its seats. Starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the film took on a life of its own, grossing $344 million worldwide.

Well, if you were along for the It Ends With Us ride, you’ll be thrilled to know another one of Hoover’s most popular novels is being adapted into a film and will be here just in time for Valentine’s Day 2026.

Reminders of Him is officially in the works at Universal Pictures after a bidding war with other studios for the rights to the novel. Hoover will be responsible for writing the screenplay along with Lauren Levine. 

The casting is a mystery for now.

Hoover is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and has put out one major hit of a film thus far. She has shared her excitement to bring another one of her most popular stories to life on the screen.

Levine has worked on projects such as Bridge to Terabithia in 2007 and multiple works for Nickelodeon. She discussed their new production company, Heartbones Entertainment and finally having their first project in the works.

We couldn’t have a stronger partner for our first film than Universal or a more representative project for the stories we are passionate about telling than Reminders of Him,” Levine said. “Colleen’s legions of fans demonstrate that women are yearning for more authentic stories about their lives. Heartbones aims to deliver to movies what Colleen has done so successfully in publishing, and we know these stories will find emotional and economic resonance in the modern movie business.”

What is the plot of ‘Reminders of Him’?

Reminders of Him follows Kenna Rowan, a young mother who spent five years in prison. When she is released, she hopes to reunite with her four-year-old daughter, but her mistakes and past start getting in the way as everyone in her life is determined to shut her out.

One person however has left the door open to her: Ledger Ward, a local bar owner who is also connected to her daughter. But as Kenna and Ledger begin forming their own connection, their romance threatens to cut them off from everyone that is important to them. 

Reminders of Him was published by Montlake in January 2022 and immediately became a massive success for Hoover. The novel sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 45 languages. 

But don’t worry, this will not be the last time you see a Hoover novel adapted for the big screen. Her 2018 psychological thriller Verity is in the works with Amazon MGM Studios, along with her 2019 novel, Regretting You with Constantin Film, which will star Allison Williams, Dave Franco, McKenna Grace and Mason Thames.
