Renowned fiddle player talks Dean Dillon tribute

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Tim Watson is a man born and raised in Alabama, now lives in the country music capital of the world, and is known as “the fiddle man.”

He’s one of many talented artists making their way to North Alabama for the Dean Dillon tribute concert in October.

“So I’ve known Dean a long time and am just so proud of him,” said Tim Watson.

He, like many of the special guests, is looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime concert.

“So it’s really cool because we never get to hang out with our friends down here,” said Watson. You know, we come in, we do shows, we come, we fly in, we jump on stage, we go back, we fly out, and we never get to really hang out like this.”

Watson’s country music resume is beyond impressive.

“And then Willie… I traveled the world with them, and Randy Travis and Loretta Lynn, oh, man… Mark Chesnut, just about everybody you can think of through the years. And all the current artists.. I play on a lot of people’s records nowadays,” he said.

When asked about life now, his answer was simple.

“just nowadays, if it ain’t fun, I don’t do it anymore,” he said.

This tribute concert will certainly be fun, as many of the most renowned names in country music are making their way to Huntsville.

“George Strait, Ronnie Dunn, Riley Green, Vince Gill, Pam Tillis, Jamey Johnson, Leann Womack, Cole Swindell, Neil Mccoy..”

and those are only a few.

However, there is one thing in common between all those legends: the writer, Dean Dillon.

“Well, everybody’s been fighting over who’s going to get the hot song, you know, because he wrote so many great hits,” Watson said.

It will be a night to remember, honoring one of the greatest.
