Reporter Files Police Report After On-Air Butt Slap: You Can’t ‘Help Yourself to a Woman’s Body’

WSAV-TV reporter has Alex Bozarjian filed a sexual battery report after being slapped on the butt while reporting on a local race, explaining that “in order to make any kind of change, you have to be a little bit drastic.”

Tommy Callaway, the 43-year-old youth minister accused of perpetrating the slap, apologized on “Inside Edition” Tuesday, the same day Bozarjian appeared on “CBS This Morning” to discuss the incident from Sunday’s Savannah Bridge Run in Georgia.

Callaway said he had a “misjudgment in character and decision-making” while raising his hands to wave to the camera.

Bozarjian responded Tuesday to a question about critics who would call her “a brat” and tell her to “get over it.”

“Maybe 10 years ago, that was a more common thing in the culture, but it’s not OK now,” she said. “It’s not OK to help yourself to a woman’s body just because you feel like it. It’s not playful. He hurt me, both physically and emotionally, and I think in order to make any kind of change, you have to be a little bit drastic and you have to kind of chip away at this toxic culture that permeates our society.”

On Tuesday’s “Inside Edition,” Callaway said if he had seen Bozarjian’s facial expression after the slap, he would have “been embarrassed” and “felt ashamed.” He said he would have apologized to her on the spot.

“I feel horrible,” he said.

Bozarjian did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
