Republican congressman says Marjorie Taylor Greene 'doesn't do anything' but 'try to be famous'
Rep. Adam Kinzinger appeared on CNN Newsroom With Pamela Brown Sunday, where the congressman from Illinois spoke about fellow Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Though Greene is new to Congress, she’s gained notoriety for espousing fantastical conspiracy theories and launching verbal attacks on Democratic colleagues, becoming one of the more high-profile members of the GOP.
Kinzinger spoke in response to Greene telling CNN’s Jim Acosta that she would like to be on the House select committee that will investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.
“Well she has plenty of time because she was stripped of her committees,” Kinzinger said. “She really doesn’t do anything but travel the country and attack people, but, you know — come up with crazy conspiracy theories, and try to be famous. And she’s done a good job of being famous. We all know her, so congratulations.”
As for serving on the committee himself, Kinzinger has his doubts about that happening.
“If asked, I’d consider it,” Kinzinger said. “I want it to be fair. I want to be able to pursue all leads. But at this point, I haven't been asked. I'm certain that Kevin McCarthy won't put me on it. I’m going to continue to get to the truth as best I can anyway.”
Kinzinger also put the blame squarely on House Minority Leader McCarthy for the fact that many congressional Republicans are refusing to publicly acknowledge what happened at the Capitol.
“McCarthy was kind of doing the [Senate Minority Leader Mitch] McConnell, ‘Who’s this Trump guy you talk about?’ thing,” Kinzinger said. “People, and I can tell you my colleagues were kind of waiting around and ready to denounce the insurrection, but the second Kevin McCarthy went to Mar-a-Lago, it all changed and it silenced so many people.”
