Ricky Moyer of Levittown makes it to Hollywood on 'American Idol'

Ricky Moyer is going to Hollywood.

The Neshaminy High School graduate made his "American Idol" debut Sunday night and wowed the judges, making his way through the first audition and winning a golden ticket to Hollywood to pursue his dreams on the show and beyond.

Moyer, of Levittown, played the piano and sang "It Must Have Been Love" from Roxette to impress Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, who all gave him a standing ovation.

"You gave us moment, after moment, after moment," said Perry. "I'm just so excited to hear the stories that you sing because I'm locked in with you."

Bryan said he was looking forward to Moyer, 22, "surprising" the judges and that he "couldn't shoot any holes" in his audition performance.

Moyer, a singer/songwriter, smiled widely as he received the praise.

“I’m so grateful for this experience,” he told the Courier Times before the episode aired Sunday night.

“And it’s been lifechanging, getting to see the judges, getting to meet all these people and really finding myself as an artist.”

Who is Ricky Moyer?

Moyer, who graduated from Neshaminy in 2019, said his love of music started in middle school where he performed in musicals. But it wasn’t until his sophomore year in high school, when Moyer sat down in front of a piano and started singing, that his passion for becoming a musician came alive.

He has since received his bachelor’s degree in music from Baldwin Wallace University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts in Ohio; and more recently, Moyer has been working on writing original songs in hopes of releasing his first E.P.

His American Idol journey began last May, but only aired Sunday night.

Moyer had been at a crossroads between music and a career in theater, when he decided to apply for the show.

He could next appear "American Idol" in a few weeks when the Hollywood auditions are aired on ABC.

Moyer's segment ended with him embracing his loved ones and waving his golden ticket in the air.

"I'm going to Hollywood, baby," he said excitedly.
