Rihanna Asks GloRilla “Wild Hypocritical” Question: “When Does The Album Drop?”
Now, Rihanna has no business asking anyone about an album when we’re all still waiting on her’s — but how cool is that thee Bad Gal is waiting on GloRilla to drop?
Following an Instagram video of Rih rapping along to Big Glo’s “TGIF” on Friday (June 28), the Fenty boss then DM’d the VIBE July 2024 cover star “hypocritically” inquiring about her next project.
“You got all summer sis! I know dis wild hypothetical, but when the album drop?” she asked in a screenshot shared by Glo. However, Rih’s DM concerned fans more with R9‘s long-awaited whereabouts, rather than Glo’s big debut.
In June, Rihanna got fans hopes up for her ninth studio album when she wore a T-shirt that read: “I’m Retired. This Is As Dressed Up As I Get.”
Although it may have just been a vintage fashion choice, that didn’t stop social media users from accusing Rih of being calculated. Following much hoopla, the Bajan beauty then clarified to Extra that it was just a fashion statement.
“They didn’t read the second line. I’m not retired, I’m just retired from dressing up — it’s a lot of effort,” she said. According to Vogue, the shirt is from Peacock Papers, a brand known for their eye-catching slogans emblazoned on apparel.
Furthermore, the 36-year-old told Entertainment Tonight that she’s “starting over” when it comes to her music.
“I don’t want to neglect the songs that I have, so I actually want to go back and listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective and then see what applies and what I’m still in love with,” she said.
She added, “I think that music, for me, is a new discovery. I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start. Give me a second!”
As for Glo, the viral summer anthem “TGIF” currently sits at No. 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her project, Ehhthang Ehhthang also reached No. 4 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 18 on the Billboard 200.
Most recently, she performed “TGIF” and hit single, “Yeah Glo!” at the 2024 BET Awards and was nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop artist.
