Riverdale Stars Dress as DC’s Gotham City Sirens for Halloween
Riverdale stars Camila Mendes, Madelaine Petsch, and Lili Reinhart recently got into the Halloween spirit by cosplaying as DC‘s Gotham City Sirens — Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn.
The three actors posed in their DC costumes for a photo they jointly shared to Instagram. Petsch takes center stage as Poison Ivy. She is flanked by Mendes and Reinhart as Catwoman and Harley Quinn, respectively. Mendes’ costume takes clear inspiration from the 1960s version of Catwoman played by Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, and Eartha Kitt. Meanwhile, Reinhart’s Harley Quinn outfit hearkens back to the character’s debut appearance in Batman: The Animated Series. In addition to the group picture, Mendes, Petsch, and Reinhart shared solo cosplay photos to their respective Instagram accounts.
Reinhart, Mendes, and Petsch starred as Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Cheryl Blossom, respectively, in all seven seasons of The CW‘s Riverdale. The Archie Comics-based drama aired its series finale on the network earlier this year.
DC is no stranger to Riverdale crossovers
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Petsch has donned a Poison Ivy costume. As Cheryl, she dressed as the DC villain for the Halloween episode of Riverdale Season 4 in October 2019. In that same episode, Cheryl’s girlfriend, Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan), dressed as Harley Quinn.
Additionally, the worlds of DC and Archie have actually properly crossed over in the comic book realm. October 2017 saw the launch of Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica — a six-issue limited series by Harley Quinn co-creator Paul Dini, Marc Andreyko, and Laura Braga. In the series, Betty and Veronica attend a costume gala dressed as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, respectively. Things take a turn when the real Harley and Ivy show up, leading to a case of mistaken identity.
Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica also features an appearance by Catwoman, who is revealed to be a big fan of Riverdale’s own Josie and the Pussycats.
