On Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter), McElhenney shared a photo of himself and costar Charlie Day with Brunson squatting down in front of the outdoor set of the Abbott Elementary school. The trio could be seen sporting sunglasses as McElhenney threw a peace sign at the camera.

He captioned the photo on Instagram, “Oh. Hello.”

Brunson also previously hinted at a crossover episode between Abbott and another show at Comic-Con in July, but had been mum on the details at the time.

“We will be doing an interesting crossover this season… but I’m not going to tell you with who or with what or where or when or how,” Brunson said at the time. “But it’s really exciting, and I think it’ll change television as we know it.”

She later told Variety she loved watching the Disney Channel crossover episodes that brought the casts of That’s So Raven, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Hannah Montana together, and wanted to bring something like that into her projects.

“Those things are what reinvigorate TV viewers, TV watchers, and I think it’s always fun to find ways to reinvigorate our audiences,” she said, adding, “I just live for those kind of magic moments, and I'm excited to be able to bring one to TV with Abbott."

That isn't too difficult to do as the two shows run within the same network. Abbott, which is produced by Warner Bros., airs on Disney’s ABC, while It’s Always Sunny runs on Disney’s FX.

Both shows made appearances at the 75th Emmy Awards last year. The It’s Always Sunny cast, including McElhenney and his wife Kaitlin Olson, presented an award at the event while Brunson became the first Black woman to win outstanding lead actress in a comedy award in 42 years for her role in Abbott Elementary.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadephia’s Season 16 premiered in the summer of 2023, while Abbott Elementary is set to premiere on Oct. 9 on ABC.
