'Rogue One' Star Ben Mendelsohn Gushes About Orson Krennic's Seriously Cool Cape
There are many different things about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to get excited about before it debuts in theaters on Dec. 15. Somewhere on that list would have to be the imposing uniform of Director Orson Krennic, the man tasked by the Empire to oversee the completion of the Death Star.
Several of the best shots from the trailers for Rogue One have featured Krennic either meditating or walking. When Yahoo Movies had the opportunity to chat with Krennic himself, Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn, we asked him about his costume.
“The first time I saw the costume — they brought it over to where I was staying — I was just delighted,” Mendelsohn said. “I mean it calls to mind certain characters in history. Darth’s got a cape. The cape, that’s a big deal. With the military intelligence outfit, yeah, it’s beautiful.”
Krennic continues the long tradition of notable capes in the Star Wars universe. Darth Vader, Lando Calrissian, Count Dooku, Captain Phasma (and Lando Calrissian), Bail Organa, Boba Fett, General Grievous, and Lando Calrissian (did I mention Lando yet?) are just a few of them.
Mendelsohn gave props to the team that designed his one. “The guys who make and design the costumes and all of the Star Wars world, they’re the real champions and heroes of that world,” he said.
