On September 13, CBS released a new trailer for Tracker Season 2 and we get some quick looks at Jensen Ackles as Colter’s brother Russell and Sofia Pernas (Hartley’s real-life wife) as reward seeker Billie Matalon.

According to TVLine, Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin in Season 1 will not return for season 2. Abby McEnany, who plays Teddi’s wife (and Colter’s handler) is back as Velma.

The synopsis for Tracker‘s first episode of the new season explains what to expect: “While investigating the strange disappearance of a missing family whose car was found abandoned on the side of the road in the backwoods of Arkansas, Colter makes a shocking discovery about the mother’s past that leads him into the world of organized crime. Also, Reenie opens up her new law firm and enlists Velma’s help in setting up shop.”

In the trailer, Colter shares a kiss with a possible love interest, which definitely could introduce an interesting dynamic. Velma tells him over the phone, “I’m making sure you haven’t done anything stupid,” to which he responds, “I don’t want to talk about it.” Tech expert Bobby chimes in, saying, “Well that sounded sus.”

TVLine revealed some spoilers for Tracker Season 2 in their Fall Preview 2024. Showrunner Elwood Reid told the site that “Colter is probably the most f—ked up” of the siblings (Russell (Ackles) and Dory (Melissa Roxburgh)) after their father’s death.

Wendy Crewson will return as Colter’s mother Mary. “You’re going to see a good bit of her,” Reid said. “We still need to build out what exactly happened [after] their father’s death. Remember, Dory went to go live with an aunt and uncle… [Russell] joined the military… They each have pieces of the story, from different sides, that they’ve never shared with Colter.”

The showrunner also revealed more details about the fallout from Mary’s secret that she had a box of their father’s journals, noting, “some of the motivations behind what [Mary] was doing with Colter and why she was trying to protect him are going to come out, and it may not be what you think it is.”

Both Justin Hartley and Pernas posted the trailer on Instagram, with Pernas sharing, “Sneak peek!! Tracker’s back ??? Whew: guys, this next season is off the chain. Don’t miss the S2 premiere Sunday, October 13 – dropping on CBS and Paramount +.”

Maybe the best reaction on Hartley’s Instagram post was from his This Is Us co-star Sterling K. Brown, who commented, “You hook up with your wife… on screen?!”

Others shared their excitement about seeing Hartley and Ackles together. “We’re definitely getting more of those beautiful Shaw brothers together on screen!!,” one fan wrote. “Time to figure out more of their family secrets. Now we need all three siblings together at some point, with any luck.”

Tracker Season 2 premieres October 13 at 8 p.m. on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
