Rome Cooney (‘Survivor 47’ exit interview): ‘Hopefully I brought a little bit of entertainment’
On Wednesday’s sixth episode of “Survivor 47,” the original three tribes of Gata, Lavo and Tuku dropped their yellow, red and blue buffs to prepare for the merge stage of the game. Rome Cooney surprised no one by quickly maneuvering between players to instigate conflict among them, but some “fact checking” by those players revealed Rome to be the true threat. After a twist in the “new era” pre-merge challenge resulted in only one player immune, the tribe settled on one player to take out and Rome was sent packing. Read on for his “Survivor 47” exit interview from the end of the episode.
“Welp, I got blindsided and, you know, I should have seen it coming,” Rome declared when first reflecting on his elimination from the game. Rome went in to the tribal council confident that he had united the entire tribe against Solomon “Sol” Yi by spreading the mistruth that Sol has made him feel uncomfortable in the game. Rome even shed some “crocodile tears” to Caroline Vidmar and Tiyana Hallums in order to strengthen his case, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the damage Rome had already done to his game the day before.

When the three tribes first got together, Rome wanted to get information from the other two tribes and so he picked Kyle Ostwald‘s brain to learn that his main female target was Tiyana and main male target was Sam Phalen. Rome then told Tiyana and Sam about Kyle’s remarks and that Kyle said Caroline and Sue Smey were weak at challenges. Naturally, word got back to Kyle, who denied the remarks and said Rome was twisting his words. Sol later confirmed for the group that “this is what Rome does” and everyone was certain that Rome should be the first to go.
After Kyle won immunity, Rome thought he shifted gears for everyone to vote out Sol and he was so certain that would happen that at tribal council he decided to throw a troll vote at Sam just to shake things up. Despite turning up wrong and getting blindsided, the tribal council was epic for Rome who was invited by Jeff Probst to sit in his seat at the helm in order to “school” Jeff on why it was a disadvantage to hold on to the Amulet and explain why Teeny Chirichillo, Caroline and Andy Rueda were all playing it that night just to get the target off their back.
“At the end of the day, that’s my only regret — didn’t make the merge,” Rome continued after the game. “But I got to sit in Jeff’s seat at a legendary tribal council.” He closed out saying, “I played super hard and, you know, I might have ruffled a few feathers here and there, but hopefully I brought a little bit of entertainment.”
Rome is now the sixth person to be booted from “Survivor 47” following Jon Lovett, Terran “TK” Foster, Aysha Welch, Kishan Patel and Anika Dhar.
