Ron Perlman Campaigns to Play Cable in 'Deadpool' Sequel
The end of Deadpool saw a tease that its sequel would feature the Merc with a Mouth’s longtime comic book foe, Cable. With Deadpool being a hit and fans already anticipating the next installment, a few actors have come forth to say they’d like the part.
Ron Perlman is the most recent. On his Facebook account, he posted several images to make his case. What was his first point? The body build? The grittiness? The comic book movie experience? Nope! It was the hair. “I’m the only one with Cable’s friggin HAIR!” he wrote.
He posted another side-by-side shot, as well as a cool Photoshop job, proclaiming, “Actually, now that i think about it, Cable should be wanting to f***ing play ME!”
But Perlman should know he’s not the only actor who wants the role. In February, Stephen Lang tweeted, “Shakespeare: ‘CABLEs of perdurable toughness’. Slang: Just staying fit. Training another story. Let’s go! #Deadpool.” And, though he hasn’t campaigned for it like Lang or Perlman, Dolph Lundgren told Nerdist, “I guess I could kick some butt doing that, I suppose.”
Just in case you were wondering, Cable is the son of Cyclops who is trained to be a warrior in the future, and then comes back to our time as an older man. He has telepathic and telekinetic powers. Cable is a surly antihero who plays well as a foil to Deadpool’s happy-go-murdery persona.
