Ronnie Fieg has brought together Marvel and Asics via Kith in celebration of comic book publisher’s 85th anniversary.

Villains are the focal point for the Kith x Marvel x Asics sneakers, which take inspiration from five characters across three different Asics models. Green Goblin, Venom and Magneto represent the villains, while Spider-Man is included as the lone out-and-out superhero. Silver Surfer’s inclusion could be considered as a villain or a hero, with has arc taking him through both roles.

“For our third collaboration, we’re celebrating Marvel’s 85th anniversary by paying homage to the characters we all love to hate—the villains,” Fieg said in a press release. “As I went through Marvel’s vast archives, I realized that there are more villains than heroes in my top 10 favorite characters. It was a lot of fun being able to reimagine some of their most iconic artworks to create this new collection, and expand into new product categories.”

The Asics GT-2160 accounts for three of the five sneakers releasing from Kith, including a two-sneaker pack that will be released in a single box with individual colorways for Spider-Man and Venom. Spider-Man’s pair utilizes his red and blue colors for a gradient mesh, while premium leather forms Asics’ Tiger stripes. The Venom edition is predominantly clad in black with pops of blue and synthetic leather overlays atop the mesh. Both sneakers feature asymmetrical heel branding repping Marvel on the left and Fieg on the right.

An additional GT-2160 modeled after Green Goblin will then release on its own with a green and yellow gradient mesh overlaid with silver and black accents. Small hits of purple also appear on the sole unit, and the heel branding matches that of the other GT-2160s.

The Gel-Kayano 14, Asics’ hottest sneaker of the moment, gets the Silver Surfer Treatment with a grey mesh base and pearlescent silver overlays with a purple essence matching the tonal purple sole unit. A Kith for Marvel logo sits on the tongue, and the heel features a mark for Fieg.

Last of the assortment is the Gel-1130 “Magneto,” which arrives with a purple and red look with mesh and leather. Kith’s logo appears on the eyestay and sockliner and Marvel’s is on the heel.

All five of the sneakers feature custom graphic insoles depicting their respective characters. A brand-new comic book will be included with the purchase of every sneaker, and a run of Kith x Marvel apparel, home goods and accessories will also release.

The Marvel x Kith x Asics “85th Anniversary” sneakers will release Friday, August 9, through Kith’s website, app and stores. Pricing has not yet been announced.
