'Roseanne who?' Valerie Jarrett says actress's racist tweet doesn't keep her up at night
Valerie Jarrett isn’t losing any sleep over Roseanne Barr‘s harsh words. The one-time advisor to former President Barack Obama appeared on Wednesday’s episode of The View and was asked to address the scandal before her segment got going.
“Roseanne who?” Jarrett replied with a laugh. “Look, in all seriousness, as I said before, I’m fine. I am just fine.”
In May, Barr tweeted that Jarrett was the offspring of the “Muslim brotherhood” and “Planet of the Apes.” ABC immediately canceled the successful Roseanne reboot, and Barr was dropped by her talent agency. The actress publicly apologized, but has since backtracked.
“Now, if one of you said something like that about me, it might hurt my feelings, but this isn’t what keeps me up at night,” Jarrett explained to The View panel. “What keeps me up at night are those families being separated on the border … or our children who go to school worrying about whether they’re going to be safe. … These are the things that keep me up at night, not a racist tweet. Racist tweets and profane videos — not so much.”
Last week, Barr continued to insult Jarrett, calling her a “bitch.” The actress said she did not know the former White House official was black, and therefore the tweet couldn’t have been racist.
“I’m trying to talk about Iran!” Barr protested in an awkward YouTube video. “I’m trying to talk about Valerie Jarrett, about the Iran deal. That’s what my tweet was about. I thought the bitch was white, goddammit. I thought the bitch was white. F***!”
Barr is set to do her first live television interview since the controversy; she will appear on Thursday’s Hannity on Fox News. Jarrett was asked what she hopes Barr will say.
“Less is more,” she replied. “Look, as I said, there are so many issues that are more important. I won’t be watching, and I hope you all won’t be watching either.”
