Rosie O'Donnell reacts to daughter's arrest on child neglect, drug possession charges: 'Not new for our family'
Chelsea Belle has been charged with several felony counts after a Sept. 10 arrest in Wisconsin.
Rosie O'Donnell has broken her silence after the arrest of her eldest daughter, Chelsea Belle.
"Chelsea is in the news today," O'Donnell wrote in a Saturday Instagram post, sharing a throwback picture of Belle and adding, "This is a photo from a better time."
She continued, "Sadly this is not new for our family. Chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade. We r all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease."
On Sept. 10, Belle, a mother of four, was arrested and booked into a Wisconsin jail after police carried out a search warrant on her Marinette County home, reported court documents reviewed by PEOPLE. She was released later that month after posting a $2000 bond but was later booked into Oconto County Jail on Oct. 11, where she is still in custody.
Following her initial arrest, Belle, 27, was charged with multiple felony counts, including neglecting a child, possession of methamphetamine, and maintaining a place for drug trafficking. She was additionally charged with four misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct and possession of THC, drug paraphernalia, and illegally obtained prescription drugs.
She is due to appear in court on Nov. 4 and Nov. 7, per court records.
Representatives for the Marinette County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.
O'Donnell and her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter adopted Chelsea when she was a baby, raising her until 2015, when a 17-year-old Belle ran away from home, only to be found a week later with her then-boyfriend. That year, she moved to Wisconsin to live with her birth mother.
Afterwards, O'Donnell was estranged from her daughter until 2018, when they reconnected when Belle was pregnant with her first child. During an appearance on The Talk later that year, O'Donnell opened up about them repairing their relationship.
"??She's doing better now and we're both communicating with each other," O'Donnell said at the time. "When somebody does something unforgivable to you and you can forgive them and they can forgive you, there's a kind of grace that descends upon the both of you within that."
O'Donnell is a mother to five children: Parker, 29; Chelsea, 27; Blake, 24; Vivienne, 21; and Dakota, 11.
