Could a member of the royal family be coming to Dancing With the Stars? According to former pro Maks Chmerkovskiy, it’s not as far-fetched as it sounds! Chmerkovskiy spoke about the perception of the show in an interview with Hello Magazine in July and even predicted we might see some royals in future seasons.

“It might not be, you know, [Prince] William and his brother [Prince Harry] duking it out,” Chmerkovskiy said. But nonetheless, he added, “I believe a lot of family drama would be solved a lot better with some kind of like a dance off.”

And if there’s something the royal family has been proven to have, it’s just that.

The former pro also said the show has become a little more prestigious with time, and he believes that is something that will continue to improve and the show will “become a little more attractive to the point where we might see” contestants that one might never have anticipated a few years ago. And why not, that includes some royals.

Dancing With the Stars judge Bruno Tonioli previously told Extra that his dream contestant for the show would be Meghan Markle. “She’d be great!” he said back in 2020. “It’d make her look accessible and funny, and it’d be brilliant. Meghan, if you’re watching this, please! We’d love you to do it.”

The show seems far from scoring a royal right now, but on the other side of the pond, the UK version counts the royals as fans. In December 2023, The Sun reported that The Princess of Wales visited the set of Strictly Come Dancing with her children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Not the same as actually participating, or wanting to, but proof that they know about the show and are interested, so one step closer.

And it gets better! Pro dancer Nadiya Bychkova told The Sun that Princess Anne, King Charles III’s sister, actually wants to participate in the BBC show. “I met her at a ballet event,” the dancer shared. “She is a ‘Strictly’ fan and she wants to go on the show — she told me. I think she would be good — there’s a lot of personality there, isn’t there?”

It probably won’t happen for Season 33, considering the combination of the strict royal protocols and Princess Anne’s age, but it does open the door for other royals. Now we know it’s not as far-fetched as it sounds, and everyone seems open to it. The show returns with new episodes in the fall, with the cast for the new season expected to be announced soon.
