Run The Jewels' Killer Mike to give lecture at MIT about U.S. race relations
Michael Render’s class will be in session this Friday. Killer Mike, one half of critically acclaimed rap duo Run The Jewels, will speak at MIT as a part of the school’s new “Hip-Hop Speaker Series.” The 40-year-old Atlanta rapper “will speak about race relations in the U.S. and address how current and future technologies could impact race relation issues,” per the university’s website.
Mike has spoken at universities before, including NYU in March. He’s also written various op-eds, covering topics from police brutality to society’s perception of rappers and their music. His pre-concert speech in St. Louis after the Ferguson, Missouri grand jury failed to indict police officer Darren Wilson for the death of Michael Brown showed the expressive rapper at his most emotional, vulnerable and honest. Watch that speech again below.
