Russell Simmons Defends Taraji P. Henson Against Backlash After Bali Visit
Russell Simmons has spoken out in defense of Taraji P. Henson in response to backlash the actress has received for visiting him in Bali.
Earlier this month, Simmons, who has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women, posted a photo on social media of himself and Henson during her trip to Bali to visit the mogul. While Simmons expressed his appreciation for Henson’s friendship and presence in the post’s caption, a number of social media users blasted the actress for associating with Simmons in light of the allegations against him.
Simmons recently took to social media to address the allegations, during which he asked his detractors to halt their verbal attacks of Henson, insisting that she’s not at fault and was simply showing support to a friend.
“Knock it off,” Simmons said of those condemning him and his associates. “I love you, I just don’t want my friends attacked and I wish you all the best. But just leave my friends alone. Don’t attack my friends for visiting me.”
The Queens, Ny native also reiterated his innocence against the sexual assault claims, pointing out that he’s yet to be formally charged or questioned by law enforcement in connection to the allegations against him.
“Still today, I have never spoken to a policeman about anything,” Simmons said in the clip. “I have never spoken to a judge, civil or criminal, about anything. From what I can tell Joe Biden, Bill Clinton and President Trump all have more credible claims against them that I do.”
The former Def Jam CEO continued, adding that he’s “never been charged” and has taken multiple lie detector tests, several of which were conducted by the Chairman of the Polygraph Association, in an attempt to prove his innocence.
Simmons also lashed out at those who have voiced their support for Donald Trump in his pursuit of a second presidential term, but have distanced themselves from him, despite the similar claims against the longtime associates.
“But yet you stand next to Donald Trump,” he added, before scoffing at speculation that he fled to Bali to avoid potential charges in relation to his alleged sex crimes. “Knock it off,” he added, announcing that he’ll be returning to the United States shortly. “I’ll be in New York next week,” Simmons said. “This idea that I’m hiding is stupid.”
Shortly after Henson’s visit to Bali, Simmons shared glowing words about Henson, who he’s known for over two decades. “People when u have friends like this, you are truly blessed!!!!,” the 66-year-old wrote of Henson at the time. “Everyone comes to Gdas [Health & Wellness Resort] for healing; some people exude healing energy. You are one of those.”
Simmons continued, adding, “You make everyone happy just with your presence. Love you baby girl; you are back home safe now and already you are missed. Until we meet again darling, only love. P.S. you mean so much to so many people keep inspiring us all!!!”
