No April fools here: Columbia listeners have the chance to see a serious star in an intimate setting when Ruston Kelly's acoustic tour comes to Rose Music Hall April 1. The Too Chill to Kill tour brings the South Carolina native to town and fans up and close and personal.

Kelly will arrive on the strength of his three records to date, including last year's "The Weakness," on which the songwriter expanded his sound, truly mingling country, pop and rock tones.

"It's a rebirth, the sound of a singer/songwriter moving out of the darkness and into the shadows, if not quite the light," AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote.

The album's title cut and other tracks, like "Mending Song," captured a vulnerability that isn't easy to shake.

Along with his own work, Kelly has written for and with the likes of Tim McGraw and Amanda Shires.

Tickets, on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, are $25-$28.

In other concert announcement news, Rose recently unveiled an April 27 double bill with songwriting John Craigie and Mason Jennings — also on sale Friday — and a June 12 date at Rose Park with reggae veterans The Movement.
