Ryan Murphy’s ‘Doctor Odyssey’ Trailer Reveals Cruise Ship Catastrophe and Guest Star Shania Twain

“Doctor Odyssey,” Ryan Murphy’s upcoming ABC drama starring Joshua Jackson, Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale, and Don Johnson, has a new cast member: Shania Twain.

The country singer’s guest starring role was revealed in a new trailer that gives a first look at the medical procedural’s high pressure cruise ship environment.

Per the series’ official logline, “Max (Jackson) is the new on-board doctor for a luxury cruise ship where the staff works hard and plays harder. It’s all-hands-on-deck as Max and his small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore.”

The trailer sees Max welcomed onto the Odyssey by captain Robert Massey (Johnson), who tells him, “This ship is heaven. Our mission is to preserve the dream. And that’s why you’re here. Keep these dreamers safe.”

Under Robert’s narration, the Beach Boy’s “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” plays — interrupted by eerie sound cues — as things begin to go wrong aboard the ship: a man collapses beside the pool as two nurses (Soo and Teale) roll a stretcher towards him; a woman convulses in a hospital bed; another woman watches a man fall backwards off of the ship.

Separately, Shania Twain appears as Robert’s dance partner in a party on deck.

“It’s not a question of when you encounter waves, but what you do when they come up,” Robert continues over a shot of the ship passing through what looks to be a major storm as the crew braces for impact. “Keep breathing,” Max says to a man who’s been rescued and pulled into a lifeboat.
