Saif Ali Khan to Host India-South Africa Awards
Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan will host the upcoming South African Indian Film and Television Awards (SAIFTA) ceremony in Durban, South Africa, organizers announced on July 16. Word came during an event promoting the awards in Mumbai, where organizers also announced the jury for the Sept. 6 kudos.
Held to laud performers from Indian and South African film and TV, the honorees will be selected by a panel including Indian bizzers Shabana Azmi, Waheeda Rehman, Mukesh Bhatt, Boman Irani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farah Khan. South Africans on the jury panel include Welcome Msomi, Caroline Smart, Saira Essa, Peter Rorvik and Leleti Khumalo.
During the event, helmer-producer Sanjay Gupta will unspool his films “Shootout at Lokhandwala” and “Shootout at Wadala.”
Orchestrated by Kedhar Gawde of events company Celebrity Locker, the event hopes to appeal to the substantial portion of South Africans who are of Indian origin. Besides the kudosfest the event intends to boost South Africa as a film location, promote business links and tourism.
