Salad & Go founders are opening a new restaurant with steakhouse burgers at fast food prices

The creators of Salad & Go, Angie's Lobster and Angie's Prime Grill recently announced their fourth fast-casual restaurant concept: Angie's Burger.

The Angie's brand began with Angie's Lobster in 2021, which opened shortly after owners Tony and Roushan Christofellis sold Salad & Go. The brand expanded earlier this year with Angie's Prime Grill. Both concepts are built around the idea that everyone should be able to afford great food, including lobster and steak.

The idea to open a burger restaurant is not new, Tony told The Republic. He said that before starting Salad & Go, they were talking about an alternate option that would have been called Burger & Go. But in the end, he and Roushan decided to focus on their salad concept.

Now that the couple has opened Angie's Prime Grill, Tony said adding burgers to their lineup just made sense.

Why are the founders of Salad & Go slinging burgers?

"To achieve the mission of making luxury foods affordable to everyone, we have to be really efficient and really creative in the supply chain," Tony said.

Meals at Angie's Lobster are under $10 and at Angie's Prime Grill a meal of USDA prime steak, organic chicken or Maine lobster is available for $10.99 or less. He said this is possible thanks to a business model built around limited, simple menus at each Angie's brand restaurant, which allows the company to save money on both food and labor costs, enabling them to keep the prices low.

Tony said he's found that it's cheaper to buy whole primal cuts of beef than it is to buy only premium cuts, so serving steakhouse burgers will allow them to make use of the offcuts of beef purchased for Angie's Prime Grill. As far as toppings, they're already stocking things like heirloom tomatoes for Angie's Prime Grill bowls, burritos and salads.

What's on the menu at Angie's Burger?

The new concept will offer a steakhouse burger, fries and a drink for $9.99.

The burgers will be 8-ounce steak burgers, which Tony said will be more reminiscent of hamburgers served at sit-down restaurants than of typical fast food burgers.

"I mean, the burger space is incredibly competitive, but everyone's doing the same thing," Tony said. "And really, most Americans have not had access to this type of level of food that we're giving now through Angie's."
