Salma Hayek was more surprised than you that Eminem performed at 2020 Oscars: 'I spilled water all over him'
Let’s just say that Salma Hayek wasn’t as collected as she would have liked, before stepping onto the Oscar stage on Sunday to present an award.
The Frida actress confessed Wednesday that she spent those final moments off-camera spilling her water on Eminem. The rapper was leaving the stage after performing his hit “Lose Yourself,” from Eight Mile, which was named Best Original Song at the 2003 Academy Awards. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, told Variety that he just thought it would “be cool” to perform it in 2020, since he wasn’t there when he won.
Hayek said her surprise at seeing the rapper is what prompted her to make a mess. Turns out, she’s a huge fan! She immediately hugged him, and their reactions were captured in photos.
“If you examine our faces, I look mortified and he looks terrified of me,” Hayek wrote in an Instagram post.
Hayek added that she was “so disappointed that I made such a fool of myself in front of him.”
The story has a happy ending, though. Hayek revealed that she later came across a Rolling Stone story on Eminem, all about his Oscars performance. She pointed out the part in which the magazine asked him if he enjoyed his overdue moment in the Oscar spotlight.
“Absolutely,” he said. “I got to hug Salma Hayek!”
Some fans were amused by just how shocked Eminem looked to see Hayek. Most of them swooned.
“I mean a hug from @salmahayek!” wrote @tommysimonetti. “Feel free to spill water on me anytime!”
Instagram’s @dan_imal_88 complimented both celebs: “Living legends right here!”
At least one person speculated that Hayek will soon be mentioned in an Eminem song.
