Salma Hayek refused a stunt involving 'a really compromising position' on 'The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard'
“I shot a gun or two in movies in the past,” Salma Hayek says of her colorful film résumé, which has included action films like Desperado (1995), Wild Wild West (1999) and Savages (2012). “And I have done some stunts and I’m proud to keep doing my stunts.”
The action, Hayek says, comes naturally to her. But nothing she has done compares to the gunplay and fisticuffs she flexes in the new action sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. In the film, Hayek’s Sonia Kincaid racks up a high body count while attempting to foil terrorists' plot alongside husband Darius Kinclaid (Samuel L. Jackson) and his ex-bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds).
“But there’s certain very dangerous ones where I say, ‘No,’” Hayek told Yahoo Entertainment during a recent interview for the follow-up to 2017’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard where she was joined by co-star Reynolds (watch above).
And then there was the “really funny” blow dart scene that Hayek refused to do. It had nothing to do with the blow darts that Sonia, Darius and Michael are all hit with by a combatant. It was the aftermath of how they’d fall from the paralyzing effects.
“Mr. Reynolds just starts laughing before we start shooting, he’s just losing it, right before the ‘Action!’ And we were like, ‘What’s wrong with you?,’” Hayek explained. “And he [laughs some more] and starts describing how he sees the scene [and] what’s gonna happen when we start falling because of the darts. And we were laughing for a long time and Sam’s laughing super-loud. And then all of a sudden we said, ‘Yeah, that’s great. … Let the [stunt people] do it.
“It’s not dangerous, it’s just a really compromising position, the way we fall.”
Or as Reynolds clarified, “My head falls straight into Salma’s butt.” To which Hayek added, “And my face falls straight into Sam’s crotch.”
“But it wasn’t me,” Hayek adds. “It was a double.”
Let the record show that.
