Sam Hunt 911 calls released after DUI: He 'almost hit me head-on'
Multiple drivers called police when they noticed Sam Hunt traveling the wrong way down a Nashville road after a night out, according to three 911 calls released on Monday by the Nashville Emergency Communications Center.
The "Drinkin' Too Much" singer was arrested Thursday on charges of driving under the influence and having an open container.
Nashville's WKRN obtained the released audio, which had one caller describing the driver, later identified as Hunt, as "driving like there was nothing wrong" and that he "almost hit me head-on."
Another person told the dispatcher that the driver was operating a dark SUV and was traveling in the fast lane.
A third caller said he could not see anything about the driver, just that the person was "going the regular speed limit. It wasn’t driving erratically, it was just on the wrong side."
Police eventually pulled Hunt over after they spotted him swerving in and out of his lane, according to an arrest warrant obtained by Yahoo Entertainment. Police said Hunt smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes and that he had admitted to drinking alcohol; further, they said there were two empty beers next to him. The arrest warrant states Hunt had a blood alcohol content of .173. The legal limit in Tennessee is .08.
The 34-year-old country star called his decision to drink and drive "poor and selfish." He added, "I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it. It won’t happen again."
Wednesday night I decided to drive myself home after drinking at a friend’s show in downtown Nashville. It was a poor and selfish decision and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it. It won’t happen again.
