Sam Smith gives 'positive' update after canceled tour dates: 'My vocal cords are healing'
Sam Smith is on the mend after a vocal cord injury caused them to cancel midway through a show in Manchester last month.
The "Unholy" singer, 31, shared a video update on Instagram Saturday after a visit to the doctor's office. "It’s actually really positive news. My vocal cords are healing, and after a week of vocal rest, it’s looking good," Smith said.
They added: "It's looking like I’m going to be OK for the rest of the shows, and that’s really amazing news."
Smith had to stop their concert at the Manchester AO Arena on May 24 after just four songs. They subsequently also canceled the last two dates of their Gloria tour stops in the U.K.

The performer apologized again in their Instagram video, telling fans the interruption was "completely out of my control."
During the Manchester show last month, the AO Arena shared a statement from Smith about their abrupt exit. "I don’t know what to say honestly. I fought off a virus a few weeks ago and since then we have travelled across Europe and had such incredible shows," they wrote.
"During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong. I came off stage and have tried everything to get my voice back in gear but it won't," they explained. "I am honestly heartbroken I couldn’t finish the show tonight for you all."
The venue added: "Sam is heartbroken to have had to cancel these shows but they have been told by doctors that if they keep singing, they will do permanent damage to their voice. If they take some rest, they will be able to perform again."
