Samuel L. Jackson’s Quirky Selfie Style Explained
Everybody has their own selfie style. For Kim Kardashian, duck face and cleavage go a long way. Miley Cyrus likes to show tongue. Justin Bieber, when he was still sharing them, liked to get in as many of his tattoos as possible. But Samuel L. Jackson isn’t trying to be like the cool kids, which is why his are cooler than ’em all.
The Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children star, 67, has adopted a quirky selfie style in which he only puts a small sliver of himself, usually just his eye, in the shot. Here’s the perennial cool cat doing it on the Today show this morning with Tom Hanks.
It was on Today that he was asked about his nontraditional approach to selfie taking — and we loved his response, which was basically that it’s not all about him. (Can you imagine Kardashian, Cyrus, or Bieber ever saying that?!)
“It’s all about the thing that I’m taking a photograph of,” Jackson told Savannah Guthrie. “I just stick my eye in there so that people know I am taking the photograph and it’s not somebody else managing my account, because so many celebrities have people who manage their accounts.”
Jackson joined Instagram in 2013, but when he really started using it in April 2015, he adopted his signature selfie style, and he’s been going strong ever since.
His first Samuel selfie was taken in Blackpool, Lancashire, England:
He’s since done it in Germany:

Needless to say, he travels quite a bit. Jackson also gave the eye at a photo shoot:

Keep doing your thing, Samuel. Whether it’s selfies or saying “motherf***er,” you do it better than the rest.
