What happened in Season 1 of The Sandman?
The Sandman, aka Dream (Sturridge) — a powerful cosmic being who controls dreams, was captured by occultists and held prisoner for over a century before he was able to escape. His captors, who held him prisoner for 105 years, were aiming to imprison his older sister, Death. Season 1 follows his journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos in his absence.
Dream is one of the seven Endless, a family of physical manifestations of aspects of the universe. The rest of the family members are listed above.
How are The Sandman and Dead Boy Detectives connected?
The main characters of Dead Boy Detectives Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) and Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew) first appeared within The Sandman #25 comic. Dead Boy Detectives was originally planned as a spinoff of Max’s Doom Patrol series, but when the series shifted to Netflix, there was more opportunity to connect it to The Sandman, as the streamer holds both shows.
Death (Kirby), who is The Sandman’s sister, pursues Charles and Edwin to take them to the afterlife, which was changed from the comic’s plot, in which she reluctantly lets them stay on Earth. She appears in Episode 1 of The Dead Boy Detectives. Despair, another member of the cosmic Endless family who oversees humanity and sometimes meddles in their lives, also appears in Dead Boy Detectives.
Other connections made in the comic books like hell’s landscape and Lucifer’s role in Edwin’s escape from hell, were differentiated in Dead Boy Detectives since The Sandman series hasn’t reached that point in the plot yet, known as Season of Mists backstory.
