Sarah Hyland explains why the coronavirus is 'really dangerous' for her
Sarah Hyland will be at home for the foreseeable future.
The Modern Family actress, who underwent a second kidney transplant in 2017, is immunocompromised, which makes the coronavirus particularly scary for her. Hyland has struggled with a condition called kidney dysplasia, which means her kidneys did not fully develop in the womb.
“Say someone gets a 24-hour bug, I get it for a week or more. For me, it’s really dangerous,” Hyland said in a sneak preview of Wednesday’s edition of Brad Goreski’s podcast Brad Behavior, per People. “My panic level is pretty high, but I also have a lot of health issues that are very susceptible to stress, so I’m trying to remain calm.”
Hyland said she’s only leaving her home for doctor’s appointments, and she wears a face mask and gloves to those.
She wants others to do the same, and she’s frustrated at some of the things she’s seeing.
“The most annoying thing to me right now are young, healthy people who are raiding grocery stores, who are raiding pharmacies,” Hyland said. “They’re leaving people over the age of 60, who may not have a child to do their shopping for them, left to their own devices.”
Hyland said she’d volunteer to help if her health allowed.
