Sarah Jessica Parker says she was fired from Antz, Home on the Range

Sarah Jessica Parker is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner, has a new HBO show, a new book imprint, and her own shoe line, but even she isn’t completely infallible. As she admitted during a recent interview with Howard Stern, she couldn’t cut it as an insect or a farm animal.

Discussing her acting career with Stern on Tuesday, the Sex and the City and Divorce star revealed she was unceremoniously dismissed from not one but two animated films.

“I was fired from Antz,” Parker said, referring to the 1998 toon that starred Woody Allen, Jennifer Lopez, Sharon Stone, who replaced her on the DreamWorks Animation movie. “Apparently I was a bad ant.”

Parker was also axed from 2004’s Home on the Range, although she misremembered the title as At Close Range. “I can’t remember which movie fired me first,” she said. “The first time they were like, ‘We’re going in a different direction.’ Which I had always heard, like, as a joke.”

Although she recorded “many sessions” for both movies, she doesn’t have hard feelings — certainly not about Stone taking over her role. “I was like, ‘Oh, you really did go a different [direction].'”

As she summed up later in the interview, “I’ve had no success playing an animal, except I played a dog onstage.”
