Sarah Michelle Gellar marks anniversary of first date with Freddie Prinze Jr.: '20 years together, 17 plus married and two kids'
Sarah Michelle Gellar is looking back on 20 years with Freddie Prinze Jr. from their very first date.
The actress, 42, who rose to fame on the hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, took to Instagram on Friday to share two side-by-side photos of herself and her husband, 43. The snapshots were in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of their first date.
“20 years ago this week, my friend @realfreddieprinze and I were supposed to have dinner with a mutual friend from out of town. That friend missed her flight, but we decided to still meet and catch up,” Gellar wrote on Instagram.
“Now 20 years together, 17 plus married and two kids, we still go to that restaurant for dinner....” Gellar then thanked her friend for not showing up.
The couple first met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, and wed in 2002. They have two children together: Charlotte, 10, and Rocky, 8.
Just a few weeks ago, Gellar honored her longtime love with gray pajamas emblazoned with his face, saying the outfit was for “man crush Monday.”
“#mcm (and yes this is how I watched the Globes, while recovering from the stomach flu),” Gellar wrote on Instagram in a post that showed her sporting the gray pajamas.
Gellar is set to headline a new dramedy series for Fox called Other People’s Houses, based on the 2018 novel of the same name, TVLine.com reported. Prinze will appear in the upcoming Punky Brewster revival opposite the show’s original star, Soleil Moon Frye. But in contrast to his happy home life, he’ll play the now-grown lead character’s ex-husband, he told Yahoo TV in October. Compared to his character’s marriage, Prinze reflected on how love can be uncertain.
“I know enough people who screwed up their lives, and ended up hating the person they loved the most. People talk about Hollywood relationships and how they’ll last forever, but if you look statistically, over 50% of all marriages end in failure, regardless of what industry you’re in,” he told Yahoo TV. “We can all draw from the experiences of our friends, whose relationships don’t work out, either because of their fault, someone else’s fault or nobody’s fault. Sometimes you just choose the wrong person; sometimes you grow apart and you’re completely different human beings.”
