Sarah Michelle Gellar Revealed Just What It Would Take for Her To Star in a 'Buffy' Reboot
Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been begging Sarah Michelle Gellar to figure out a way to return to the series. The 47-year-old actress has been pretty clear that she’s done with the beloved show, but there may be a loophole in getting her to resurrect Buffy’s slaying ways once more — and it’s the Queen of Country.
Yes, Dolly Parton may have some influence over Gellar, who admitted to Us Weekly, “I mean, like, if Dolly Parton is going to call me I’m always available to take a phone call from the queen.” For anyone who doesn’t know, Parton’s Sandollar Productions produced the 1992 film starring Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry, and the 1997 series on The WB, so she was an uncredited producer. The 78-year-old legend is always happy to talk about the project, too. “They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it,” Parton told Business Insider in January. “They’re still working on that.”

Gellar is quite a fan of the country icon and bragged about Parton on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2023. “Yes, little known fact, the legend Dolly Parton was a producer,” Gellar shared. “We never saw her [but] we’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, ‘She doesn’t even know who I am.’ And then one day, someone asked her about it, and she complimented the show and my performance. I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now. Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.’”
The former daytime star wasn’t exactly the biggest hype woman for a revival, though, but she is “very proud” of the work she did on the seven-season series and is “all for” the story to continue without her participation. “Because there’s the story of female empowerment,” she explained to SFX magazine, via IndieWire. “I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power. But like I said, the metaphors of Buffy were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I am not an adolescent.”
Now that she’s open to a phone call from Parton, maybe there is a way to entice Gellar back to a reboot. Fans would certainly embrace her, so what is everyone in Hollywood waiting for?
