Sarah Silverman announces conscious uncoupling from Michael Sheen: 'It just got hard'
Long-distance relationships aren’t for everyone — as Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen have learned. The pair, who have been together since 2014, quietly parted ways over the holidays, the comedian has shared.
Silverman broke the breakup news on social media on Monday. “The great @michaelsheen & I consciously uncoupled over Christmas,” she tweeted. “I mean, not ‘over Christmas’ — like that wasn’t the fight that ended it. No fight. We just live in different countries & it got hard.” (Conscious uncoupling, of course, was a term first used by Gwyneth Paltrow when she and Chris Martin split up.)
The great @michaelsheen & I consciously uncoupled over Christmas. I mean, not “over Christmas” – like that wasn’t the fight that ended it. No fight. We just live in different countries & it got hard. Felt we should just tell y’all so u stop askin, “How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?”

She concluded by writing, “Felt we should just tell y’all so u stop askin, ‘How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?’” We’re sure a lot of people were asking why she attended the Grammys with her BFF. And then posted a sultry social media shot after the show.
The seemingly unlikely pair were first linked in February 2014 and slowly went public with their romance. During their relationship, they made it clear that they had no plans to ever get married, but Silverman bonded with Sheen’s ex Kate Beckinsale and their daughter, Lily.
During their relationship, they worked together on his starring vehicle, Masters of Sex. However, when that show ended, he announced plans — soon after the 2016 election — to move to his hometown of Port Talbot, Wales, to focus on activism (aka fight the far-right). When he spoke about the move, he said that he didn’t know if his long-distance relationship with Silverman would last. While they weren’t seen together that often at first, he did pop up in her Instagram in May. The fact that they were together again was notable.
They were last photographed on the red carpet together in October for her premiere of Hulu’s I Love You, America With Sarah Silverman. By then, he was a blond for his Amazon project, Good Omens.
