Sacha Baron Cohen thanks Dick Cheney, Sarah Palin after receiving 3 Emmy nominations
Sacha Baron Cohen is expressing gratitude after learning that his Showtime series Who Is America earned three Emmy nominations on Tuesday.
After the show received nominations in the Outstanding Picture Editing, Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Variety Sketch Series categories ahead of the 71st annual Emmy Awards, the comedian, actor and producer took to his Twitter to share his thoughts and appreciation for the people who helped make the show possible.
But among the thank you’s he had for the Emmys voters and his staff, Cohen also gave a shout-out to Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin, who, at first, unknowingly contributed to the success of the show.
In the series of tweets, Cohen addressed the “bigotry, racism and hate” that his team researched and ultimately uncovered while creating the show. He also acknowledged the former vice president and former governor of Alaska, who were at the center of two of the series’s most prolific episodes.
“I’ve play some lunatics in my time, but the look of vacuous evil in [Cheney’s] eyes as he autographed a waterboard kit, would put Daniel Day Lewis to shame,” Cohen wrote.

While I am flattered at these nods, it is a shame that my co-stars were not recognized. Particularly Dick Cheney, who I had hoped would come across on camera as someone who’d gleefully sent hundreds of thousands to their pointless death – and boy did he deliver.

Fans responded to the tweets asking Cohen for a season two, before realizing that it’d likely be impossible because the politicians worth featuring already know that the so-called “Showtime historical documentary” that Cohen pitched isn’t what it appears.
Still, for the season that Cohen delivered, people have assured that the Emmy nomination is well deserved.
