'Scandal' Star Tony Goldwyn's Appearance at the DNC Delights the Internet: 'As a Former President Should'
Tony Goldwyn is putting his experience as a TV president to good use, and fans can't get enough.
The actor—who famously played President Fitzgerald Grant III on Scandal—took the stage at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday, August 19, to endorse Kamala Harris, calling her "a candidate who has devoted her life to public service, who never shies away from a righteous fight, and who always stands up for the people."
Fans found Goldwyn's appearance fitting, given his "presidential" background.

"If he brought out Olivia, I would have passed out," wrote a second fan, referring to Scandal's Olivia Pope character, played by Kerry Washington, who is set to host on Thursday night.

Another X user shared a clip of the famous MTV Awards moment when Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams recreated their kiss from The Notebook, writing, "Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn need to recreate this on the DNC stage if they’re serious about Kamala winning."

Many more chimed in as his appearance ignited memes and passionate reactions, with one writing, "Shonda Rhimes mama I need you to get back to work. We need him now more than ever," as another mused, "Fitz leaving Vermont to show support to Kamala Harris. That’s my president."
"And he channeled his inner Fitz too he gave that speech like he was on the show again ??," someone else chimed in.
Others complimented him on his "presidential strut," as another added, "Gladiators at work at the DNC."
In March, Goldwyn appeared in a video released by President Joe Biden in advance of his final State of the Union address.

In the clip, Goldwyn and five other actors who played the president in movies or on TV offered Biden "advice."
