Scarlett Johansson confirms her dream come true, will be in ‘Jurassic World 4’

With Natasha Romanov (aka Black Widow) one of the few Marvel characters without superpowers and also – in the current timeline – dead, it would take a miracle for Scarlett Johansson to return to the MCU. But there’s another effects-heavy four-quadrant franchise out there that says “welcome.”

The Tony-winner and two-time Oscar nominee confirmed that she has been cast in the next “Jurassic World” film, which, for now, is just called “Jurassic World 4.” (It is the seventh film in the revived ‘n’ rampaging dinosaur series, originally based on a Michael Crichton novel.)

“I am an enormous ‘Jurassic Park’ fan. It is one of the first movies I remember seeing in theaters. I remember it so vividly. It was life-changing and mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am,” she said in an interview with ComicBook.com.

That first movie, of course, was directed by Steven Spielberg in 1993 (when Johansson was 8 years old) with an adapted screenplay penned by David Koepp. As it happens, this new one also boasts a script by Koepp, his return to the series after 1997’s “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.” Gareth Edwards, director of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “The Creator,” will direct.

Johansson said Koepp’s screenplay was “so incredible” (what else is she gonna say?) but added, “I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years. I’m like, ‘I’ll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I’ll do the craft service!’ I’ll do anything for it. The fact that it’s happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable.”

Her co-stars will include Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, and David Iacono. The movie will be shot on location in Thailand, as well as at studios in Malta and the U.K. Series producer Frank Marshall is leading the experiment, as is Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. The three “Jurassic World” films each had a worldwide gross of over $1 billion, so it isn’t too surprising Universal and Amblin are bringing the property back to life.
