More from Footwear News
Scarlett Johansson is hard at work. While on the set for her next project, “Jurassic World Rebirth,” she was dressed in a classic business casual look. The star of the film wore an easy blue suit, paired with a T-shirt as well as a pair of simple white sneakers.
Johansson’s shoes were from Veja. The sneakers were the brand’s Esplar silhouette. Made of leather they sport the company’s large V logo on the side in the color black as well as the Veja branding across the back collar. There’s also more branding on the tongue of the shoe.
The shoes are a classic court sneaker and are minimal. The leather itself comes from Uruguay and was tanned in Brazil. while the laces are organic, the sole, welt and logo are all made of rubber. The Veja Esplar sells for $150. The lifestyle shoe was first released in 2021.
Veja, which launched in 2004, is a brand known for its eco-conscious production and sustainable minded positioning. In 2018 the company made inroads in the public conscious being worn by the likes of Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. That year, it became the hottest brand on Instagram that people wanted to wear. At the time they had already counted Emily Ratajakowski, Emma Watson, Chloe Grace Moretz and Marion Cotillard as fans.
Since then, the Parisian company has collaborated with Rick Owens. The pairing turned out a vegan performance runner for the fall 2019 Rick Owens men’s show — Hedi Klum has been spotted in the shoe. The company also began opening stores, first with its Paris location in 2019.
Earlier this year, the company re-released its first-ever design, the Volley shoe. That original design sold out in 2005 when 5,000 pairs were released. It was not re-issued until this year when it was rendered in organic traced leather, in nine different colorways.
