Scott Eastwood Shares the Acting Advice His Dad Clint Eastwood Instilled in Him (Exclusive)

Scott Eastwood is sharing the advice his dad Clint Eastwood gave him before he joined the film industry.

Speaking with PEOPLE at the premiere of his new film 1992 at Regal Theater DTLA in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Aug. 27, Scott shared that his famous dad Clint, 94, had a meaningful piece of advice for him when he decided to get into acting.

"Follow your gut," Scott remembers of the wisdom his dad shared with him.

Scott is the son of Clint and Jacelyn Reeves.

In February 2022, Scott shared some more insights his father had given him in an interview with Insider, claiming that his dad told him not to do a Suicide Squad sequel after Scott shared that he felt he was getting paid enough.

According to the actor, Warner Bros. offered him a three-movie deal, including The Suicide Squad, but he turned it down at least in part because "they didn't want to pay me any money for those next movies," he said at the time.

Additionally, "They didn't have another script for the other movie, so I didn't know what I was going to be signing myself up for," he claimed. (Reps for Warner Bros. and DC did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment at the time.)

Scott said he told Clint, " 'They don't want to pay me,' " to which the four-time Academy Award winner replied, " 'If it feels like they really need you and if it's a good part, then do it. If not, then don't.'"

"I didn't have the answer to those questions at that time," Scott told Insider. "I wasn't going to have the answers, and they were pressuring me. So ultimately it didn't happen."

Back in 2016, Scott shared that he'd learned a lot growing up under Clint, telling Esquire, "My father's definitely old-school. And he raised me with integrity — to be places on time, show up and work hard."

He also revealed he might continue to follow in Clint's footsteps and move behind the camera one day.

"Like he says, it's feast or famine for an actor," Scott said. "If you're not creating your own material, then you're just fighting for whatever's out there. I definitely have the desire to go to the other side."
