Scott Hamilton & Friends benefit brings country, skating icons to Bridgestone in November
Olympic gold medalist and four-time United States and World Champion figure skater Scott Hamilton returns with stars of the worlds of country music and the ice on Nov. 19 at Bridgestone Arena for his annual benefit celebration for his Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation.
Tickets for the event will be available on Oct. 6 at https://www.ticketmaster.com.
Timeless 90s country stars like current-era favorite Jo Dee Messina, multi-platinum seller Trace Adkins, "Strawberry Wine" vocalist Deana Carter, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer Steve Wariner and lead-singer supergroup The Frontmen (featuring Little Texas' Tim Rushlow, Lonestar's Richie McDonald and Larry Stewart of Restless Heart) join house band Sixwire as scheduled for the event.
A press statement notes that the nearly decade-old Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation (Cancer Alliance for Research Education and Survivorship) is "dedicated to changing the future of cancer by funding advanced, innovative research that treats cancer while sparing the patient" by "[being] a neutral convener between organizations, researchers, academic scientists, drug developers, and others to accelerate the advancement of less toxic treatments for isolated cancers and tumors."
Four times in the past 25 years (1997, 2004, 2010 and 2016), Hamilton has fought against brain and testicular cancer.
After his 1997 battle with testicular cancer, he returned to skating after his treatment. Then, in 2004, it was announced he had a benign brain tumor (craniopharyngioma). In June 2010, Hamilton had brain surgery to prevent the benign tumor's resurgence. Twelve years later, he had a brain tumor diagnosis again, but a year later, the tumor had shrunk without chemotherapy.
Ice skaters with four Olympic and eight world championships between them (alongside numerous national championships and standout performances) will be highlighted, including the following:
Jeremy Abbott
Elladj Baldé
Mariah Bell
Kurt Browning
Nathan Chen
Alissa Czisny
Polina Edmunds
Gracie Gold
Katia Gordeeva
Alexa Knierim & Brandon Frazier.
Keegan Messing
Kirsten Moore-Towers & Michael Marinaro
David Pelletier
Kaitlyn Weaver & Andrew Poje
